About Residual Designs
Whit Nguyet, better known as Whiz, defies every stereotype there ever was about what you might picture as your fabricator. As a former CEO of a successful build shop in Chicago, Whiz is here to help clients execute the vision for their space in every facet – from brainstorming to viewing and selecting inspirational photographs. Drafting and then fabrication is where the true mastery comes into play.
Growing up, she would hand her Father and Grandfather the tools they needed and observed their skills for hours on end while they built furniture and other creations. Learning her talents at such a young age, she continued woodworking as a hobby while studying business in college. Graduating with a finance degree has brought many opportunities which later was discovered to never feel as fulfilling as the artistry route. Whiz started her first company, Residual Designs, in Chicago, IL to see both her woodworking and design dreams come to fruition. Building and creating since she was a kid, it became her life’s calling to be able to execute her creativity by helping clients decorate their homes and businesses. With more than 20 years experience Whiz says it best, “Providing furniture and art that flows with the client’s style is my passion. My goal is to bring practical, unique pieces to a space that results in maximum functionality.” With a niche for designing and building minimalistic furniture for tiny home living, she helps her clients, who come from a variety of different sized spaces from all over the U.S. Whatever ideas you might have, Whiz is here to listen and bring them to life. Nothing is off the table.
Naturally pursuing dreams, Whiz is currently based in Tampa to launch a new brand that focuses on custom art installation pieces.

Yora
Yora is our mascot and security. This calico kitten was found in a Chicago dumpster in 2013. She now lives an adventurous life of riding shotgun, sunbathing, and midnight zoomies. Yora loves to hang outside and watch us work on projects from afar. When you can’t find her, most likely she’s napping on a desk and keyboard.
Sustainability
Residual Designs
Crafting a Sustainable Future through Reclaimed Creations
At Residual Designs, we firmly believe in the power of transformation, where discarded materials find new life as meticulously crafted furniture pieces that blend functionality, artistry, and environmental responsibility.
Our commitment to sustainability takes center stage with the use of reclaimed and recycled wood. We view old furniture not as forgotten relics but as the foundation for new beginnings. By salvaging high-quality wood from discarded pieces, we channel its history and character into entirely fresh creations. Each crack, knot, and grain tells a story that resonates with those who seek both aesthetic allure and eco-consciousness in their living spaces.
The art of taking time-worn furniture and breathing new life into it is a testament to craftsmanship and a statement against the throwaway culture. We meticulously restore, reimagine, and renew, producing furniture that bridges eras and cultures while reducing the strain on our precious resources.
But our innovation doesn’t stop at wood. Residual Designs pioneers the fusion of form and eco-friendly function by incorporating recycled materials in imaginative ways. Imagine a coffee table where recycled glass fragments find harmony within a bed of polished reclaimed wood, held together by epoxy. It’s a symphony of texture, color, and conscience, a piece that sparks conversations about the possibilities of a circular economy.
Our dedication to sustainability extends even to the byproducts of our craft. Sawdust, a common residue in woodworking, becomes a valuable resource. Through the ancient Japanese technique of shou sugi ban, we not only enhance the aesthetic allure of wood through controlled charring but also repurpose sawdust as kindling for fires, minimizing waste while indulging in the warmth of tradition.
Residual Designs envisions furniture beyond static forms, leading the way with adaptable, portable designs. Our creations effortlessly adapt to the evolving needs of modern living. A dining table seamlessly extends to accommodate unexpected guests, a bookshelf transforms into a display at an event, and a coffee table becomes a conversation starter wherever it’s placed. Sustainability isn’t just about materials – it’s about versatility, endurance, and the capacity to enrich lives in countless ways.
In the heart of each Residual Designs piece, sustainability and style intertwine, forming the blueprint for a more conscious and elegant future. Our creations transcend mere furniture; they are expressions of responsible artistry, bold statements against waste, and beacons guiding us towards a world where the old and the new coexist harmoniously. Join us in shaping a more sustainable tomorrow – one creation at a time.
